*Please note: A copy of a birth certificate issued by the county courthouse or a hospital is not sufficient. The certificate must be that which is issued by the WV Department of Vital Statistics. If you are unable to locate a certificate of live birth for your child, you may apply for a replacement. Print a copy of the Birth Certificate Request Form and send it, along with the $12.00 non-refundable fee to:

When can I enroll my child in Preschool?
Webster County offers continuous, open enrollment for preschool. You may complete an application for the 2025-2026 school year online at https://forms.office.com/r/ncLJBNJSKn or contact (304) 226-5991 to make an appointment. Applications for the current school year may be completed at the Cowen Early Head Start office behind the IGA in Cowen or by calling (304) 226-5991 for an appointment.
How old does my child have to be to enroll in school?
If your child is four years old prior to July 1 of the year he/she is to enroll they are eligible for Pre-K.
Children who are five years old prior to July 1 shall be enrolled in kindergarten.
Three-year-old children can be enrolled in the WV Pre-K System if they have an IEP.
What transition activities are available to help my child get ready for school?
Webster County Schools hosts two "Tot Spot" playgroups that encourage socialization and early literacy and numeracy skills.
Cowen area playgroup is held at the Starting Points Daycare center every Monday (when school is in session) from 9:30-10:30. The last day of playgroup in Cowen is Monday, May 19, 2025.
Webster Springs area playgroup is held at Webster Springs Elementary School every Friday (when school is in session) from 9:30-10:30. The last day of playgroup in Webster Springs is Friday, May 23, 2025.
Each spring, Webster County Schools hosts an annual "Move-up Day" at Glade Elementary and Webster Springs Elementary for students attending Kindergarten in the fall. Information about this event is available on each school's webpage in May of each year.

Webster County partners with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program to bring FREE BOOKS to registered children aged 5 and under. Click here to register your child.
How do I enroll a K-12 student in school?
